First Time In Bengali...

A string of Black Pearls, first time in Bengali version as I promised.

It was publishes in December 1965.
Just before the month Bengali IJC was started with "The Scarlet Sorceress" as "Lal Jadukarir Rajasyo".

In eng #22 "A string of Black Pearls" is 28 pages. I tried to concentrate only in the main story.

So I translate it within 20 pages, the main story, a page of Henry as Gunodhar , a single page of Ad(3rdth cover for the bottom line IJC information, I don’t translate it) and I change the 4th cover Ad with front cover without its title.

It was just before the 1st Bengali issue so I numbered it as -1. I will gladly accept any better idea with number.

So here it is

Kalo Muktar Kanthohar
................................................................................................

With Black Pearl I also like to present Scarlet Sorceress

“Kalo Mukta “-r sathe “Lal Jadukari”

First Bengali Indrajal Comics 001 Lal Jadukarir Rahosya first time online with its complete 28 pages.

Download

001 Lal Jadukarir Rahosya
.................................................................................................

And now here is a short animation of Gabloo(Gunadhar), taken from Bengali IJC 073,Maya Purir Rahoya

I am not an animator, I did it 4 years ago just for fun. I use the name as Gabloo because I think it is more appropriate than Gunadhar.

Hope you enjoy it.

Anyway, today this blog complete its 2nd year

  1. @Betak babu:First of all,congrats on anniversary,even though u were a "hidden blogger" for long! :o)

By the way,i find it's pretty amusing the way u numbered the #22...haha,but 2 things..
    #1 - don't give "=" sign as tht'sa not Ijc's style
    #2 - it should be numbered "0" than -1 as before 1 it comes 0 and then only -1....so eng #21 should be -1 etc etc....(also,in Western comics,they starrt a comic-series typically by "0"!! :o)))

Anyway, thnx very much for this and that modified original #1

  2. and I will watch that Gabloo ani...looks interesting...

PS - Allthough Henry aka "Gunodhar" was by ToI's bengali translation,"Gabloo" was by ABP and it's always more catchy than da former!! :-)

  4. I'm sure that with love you started one year ago is stronger today as it was. Thanks for bringing much joy, love and happiness to celebrate this day.
    Happy Anniversary!

Dada, you are full of surprises. Stared and for a long time we were unable to find you. Back with Dhamaka post. Your each post is tastier than earlier one. Your entry has given a new impulse to IJC blogging.

Nice works! Animation is really interesting. Words are not enough to thank about translated versions. .

About numbering I’ll back later. It’s really very challenging question.

P.S. Pls translate rest pages of #22 IJC & post later whenever possible. Let it be cover to cover also.

  5. @Sagnik:It’s all right Mandrake Badu, Batak is alright. Sometimes I also write “dp,ryo,rd” for sometimes. Just press one key after.

Its remind me of an artist’s comments:
“The letter after O and before Q does not work on this comquter. will aint more when I can get some money for aint,. Will trade aintings for aint. Or will send archival rints for qaint.”

He is a “ainter” I mean Painter.

And about number If I put “-1” without “=” it does not mean “-”anymore. It’s just looks like No-1.
“0” is nice idea, I also thought about it. Expect more isea I mean idea about number, otherwise we should start with “0”
Thanks for your comments, and I turn of word verification now.

  6. @Prabhat: Thanks Prabhat, your words always encourage me brother. You also know without you maybe I do nothing in IJC blogging.

Transliteration is a very long process. Translating, composing, proof reading, change the all balloons, and again proof reading…so if I add more pages it become lengthier , and also some topics are not too interesting in this age. Otherwise C to C translation is unique idea. Maybe I will try with next one.

Let us know what your answer about Number is.

    Thanks again.

  9. @BIC: congrats for ur 2nd year anniversary..& speaking of no.s, sonkha guno ke erokom kore no. dile kemon hoy:
    #1 as"0"..thanks mandrake dude
    #2 as 1'
    #3 as 2'
    #4 as 3'
..similarly, #22 as 21'..tomar nischoy mone ache, amra eki no. but different object/sonkha thakle we use "prime" to differentiate in between them..just like x and x'..ki bolchi asha kori bujhte parcho..so, it will b better if u change the no. as 21'.. & i hope bhobishottei ro erokom animation regarding some ijc character dekhte pabo..thanks..

  10. @BIC: u can also start numbering as #1 eng-1'..instead of using "0"..so, #22 eng in that should be 22'..& the order will also be same..thanks..

  12. I understand about problems related with transliteration. That's why I was surprised with you speed.

I think, numbering V01N01 to 22 in same order as English & Hindi will be better option.

No number changes & vol gives idea about 1st year.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Here is one more option: Don't know Bengali word for transliteration. You can pick first letter of Bengali word for it and after that as real style of English & Hindi of that period style (Sankya 1) keeping same real sequence.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I do agree wid PBC as that Vol.1 No.1(Khondo 1 Sonkha 1) for eng #1 sounds much better than other options....

using "minus" or "prime" would be confusing as well as bit weird(never happened in any books numbering,as far as my knowledge concern atleast)!!

    So,while V1 N1(upto V2 N10 aka #22) will serve better,also it'll indicate da "original" 1st year of Indrajal,as otherwise,these Bengali Ijcs are just FAN-FICS(for us,Ijc crazies!!:)) and nothing else,so one,be an avid Indrajal fan,should not get confused with the original Bengali #1...

  15. @MaNdrAke dudE: One drawback in numbering like V1N1-10 & V2N11-22 is V2 starts with 11. Some may try to search V2N1-10.

May be Sonkha 1 (transliteration) to 22 same as English numbers.

Hoping Dada will have not big problem in changing 2 numbers and thankful visitors (who downloaded already) to download covers or complete file.

@Betal: One more request. As these are unique works & your blog is a real treasure. Pls you try to add in these & all next scans a last page like DCP team. There should be minimum your AVATAR & blog address. In such transliteration work an additional line: It's a transliteration work (like info).

    ReplyDelete
  16. @PBC: I didn't meant V2 N11-22,I meant V1 N1-10 & V2 N1-12(as on 1st year 10 Ijcs released & in 2nd years,it was 12!)

but it's true,as this(translated versions) are simply FAN-FICs and nothing else,so numbering is not any issue anyway except 4 some fun!:-)

  17. @Suman, thank you suman. You are right this type of translation is a team work. It is very hard to do by a single person.
Amar khub bhalo lagchhe je tomar eta pachanda hoyeche.

Ar animation samparke boli I am not an animator and this is also not that good animation. I draw a serried of figures and move them that all. I did it because Henry(gabloo) is one of my favorite character and chhotto animation korbar pakkhe besh bhalo.

Amito betal niye sob samay erakam kichu korte chai ekar pokkhe eto boro kichhu bodhoi sambhab noi.
Kintu Gabloo ba Chhotto Raja niye korbar Ichchha roilo..

    ReplyDelete
  18. @Walker: I did a “The Little King” animation just before this Gabloo. aro Gabloo ar Chotto Raja-r animation korbar amar bhisan rakam ichha ache.
Ar Betal Ba Mandrake niye korte parleto bhihan Khushi hobo.

Kintu animation also a team works. I did the whole process of gabloo within one month, key frame, in-betweens, animation, video editing and sound mixing etc. for only one page story. Kintu ekta 28 pages long Betal ba mandrake story niye animation korata mone hoi ekar dara sonbhob hobe na.

And what you said about number is not a bad idea but Prabhat has a better suggestion.

    Thanks for your comments.

    ReplyDelete
  19. @Mandrake Dude: yes I also agree with Prabhat he has the simple and better idea.

    Thanks for your valuable comments.

    ReplyDelete
  20. @Suman:You Told me about the missing page of LalJadukarir, Devil also notice me.
thanks Devil and thank you for that.

    ReplyDelete
  21. You are right Prabhat, you have the best suggestion.
Sonkhya 1(22), Sonkhya 2(21) is the best an simple way. Also add a line “This story is a translated version of a story titled A String of Black Pearl published on December 1965”. As IJC print this line for their repeated version.

And I also feel that I must translate all 28 pages of#22 as you asked before, the issue should remain as it was. I don’t have any right to deduct something from it because it is related to all IJC lovers’ sentiment and emotion. Thanks Prabhat, You realized that before and told me to do C to C translation, for just keep it as it was.

So numbering problem is solved now, Mandrake Dude consider it as fun, so why don’t have fun in style?

So I change the number on cover, add rest 8 translated pages and post it again for fun.

So it is written, so it shall be done.
    Thanks again.

  22. @for every one: please don't download "Kalo Muktar konthohar" until I post it again.
I am sorry for that, it need some changes.

    Thanks.

  23. Amazing work, to bring an unreleased IJC in regional language, into folds, Betal. Also loved your cartoon, and you say you made it when you were an amateur. Man, now what would be it if it was made today :) ?

  24. Thanks Rafiq Raja. I am still an armature in animation. Actually I am an illustrator not an animator in profession. But I always like to pass time with animating.
    Thanks for your kind comments.

  25. Forget to tell you, my 6 months old daughter is big fan of Gabloo. Whenever play, she drops all her play, demands to play at least twice. :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. @Prabhat: I think that's the best compliment that I ever received.
Lots Of love and a big and warm hug for her.

And I am sure Prabhat you always maintain a very safe distance between TV and you daughter.

  28. So far I remember, the first issue was numbered as '0' (zero).
It was in early seventies that I read it in a hard-bound collection of IJC's made by a neighbor of mine, and I distinctly remember that numbering the first issue as zero seemed pretty special to me. Of course I totally forgot all other details including episode names.. it was just too long ago.
Many many thanks for all these nostalgic gifts
